Sun, the beach and beautiful buildings

Our first two days in Barcelona have been spent wandering around and exploring the city.

There is so much to see and do.

Yesterday we walked down the the beach in Barcelonetta. On the way we bought some churros with a hot chocolate sauce. They were from a street side stall where the man made them in front of us. They were delicious! Hot, sugary and like donuts. Yum!

We didn't go swimming at the beach, but it was nice to walk along the sand and get our feet wet. Such a change from a cold Melbourne winter!

In Spain, people don't eat dinner until about 8 or 9pm, so we've been coming back to the hotel each afternoon and having a sleep. So relaxing!

Last night we walked around the local area, away from the tourists and found a small restaurant to have dinner at. We ate some beautiful tapas, small plates of food. Anchovies, fried peppers (like small green capsicum) and a tuna and tomato salad. So fresh and delicious.

Today we booked to visit Casa Batllo and La Sagrada Familia, two of Antonio Gaudi's amazing buildings. He was an architect and engineer in the early 1900's. His buildings have no straight lines and are based on the curves of nature. Quite awesome to look at and imagine how crazy his designs would have seemed at the time. Ella and Angus, these are the buildings daddy has shown you on the computer. He loves this style of buildings and how they can create a feeling of happiness.

Today we also had a swim in the pool at the hotel, which is on the roof top. Such a nice way to relax.

Tomorrow we are planning to go to the big local market to look at all the wonderful hams, cheese and other produce they have here. We thought we'd buy something to have for a picnic lunch in a park somewhere.
